Obama administration wants more fish farming

President Obama and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), are pushing for more fish farming in the nations oceans as a way of reducing the US$9 billion (€6.378 billion) seafood deficit and as a way of creating more jobs in the aquaculture industry.

The new Department of Commerce and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) aquaculture policy will make it easier to create open ocean fish farming. Currently, at present there are no aquaculture operations anywhere in federal waters. The new plan could bring half a dozen large-scale fish farms into the Gulf in a year or more, according to an account in the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Read more ...
