Fish health experts need to act over salmon virus

Due to the recent reports of the ISA virus found in wild salmon, there needs to be a plan of action to deal with this outbreak before its devastate the population. “We need an action plan immediately and we need to make sure that we are formulating a rapid response to what to do if we do detect that the virus is spreading,” US Senator Maria Cantwell, D-Wash, said in support of an amendment to a pending appropriations bill in Congress. The virus known as infectious salmon anemia (ISA) is well know and has killed tens of millions of farm-raised salmon in such far-flung places as Norway, Chile, New Brunswick, Canada and Scotland.
