23/07/2014: The biggest fish ever caught in UK waters

A fisherman from Yorkshire has landed what is being hailed as the biggest fish ever caught from British shores - an estimated 208-pound common skate.

Daniel Bennett, 26, was fishing on the Isle of Skye in Scotland when a huge fish “took off at a thousand miles an hour.” 

After a two-hour battle, Bennett and the others managed to land the fish on the rocks and take its measurements before releasing it alive back into the water, as the common skate is a critically endangered species.
