13/06/2017: Westminster Food and Nutrition Forum Keynote Seminar Priorities for UK fisheries policy - sustainability, trade, access and funding

 The seminar is taking place is Central London on Tuesday June 20, 2017. 

 The focus is "The way forward for UK fisheries policy in light of Brexit". 

 Key discussion points: 

  • Post-Brexit fisheries management by the UK - international and domestic legal frameworks
  • Safeguarding a globally competitive UK fishing sector - trade tariffs, access agreements and international markets
  • Priorities for UK marine food security - balancing growth and sustainability
  • Fisheries management in a devolved context

 Context: 

  • Publication of the EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee’s report which highlighted key challenges and opportunities for fisheries management after the Common Fisheries Policy.
  • A report by the Environment Audit Committee calling for the government to establish greater protection and monitoring strategies for Marine Protected Areas.
